We asked where the locals like to eat and were pointed to Papa Ole’s Restaurant on King Kamehameha Highway on the North Shore of Oahu. This little diner inside a non-descript strip was the real deal and the food was fantastic.
Hawaiians love the plate lunch special, which usually goes for about .50 and includes your choice of meat plus two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Look at the size of those short ribs… real authentic Maui ribs… not the stuff you buy at Costco. The food was great and the service was friendly.
We later found out that the owner’s nephew is none other than former pro wrestler, The Rock. There is an autographed picture of him hanging on the wall.
